Loyalty cards — those little paper cards that promise a free sandwich or coffee after 10 purchases, but instead get lost or forgotten — are going mobile. And merchants are looking for ways to marry the concept to games that customers can play to earn more free items and, it is hoped, spend more money.

Instead of collecting paper cards and fumbling through wallets at the cash register, customers are increasingly using their cellphones to track their visits and purchases, and receive rewards.

Some start-ups, like CardStar and CardBank, store existing loyalty cards on cellphones with scannable barcodes. And companies including Motorola and a start-up called mFoundry are providing retailers with the technology to build cellphone loyalty cards.

Loopt is one of several start-ups — including Foursquare, Shopkick and Gowalla — that are experimenting with ways to use cellphones to bridge the digital and physical worlds and turn the tasks of everyday life, like buying coffee and running errands, into a game.

No one in advertising has ever been able to figure out how to do “one-to-one, real-time marketing,” said Drew Sievers, a former advertising executive who is now co-founder and chief executive of mFoundry. “The mobile phone is where that will actually probably happen. It’s the only thing connected and always with you.”

Loopt has offered search or banner ads on its mobile apps, but advertisers told the company that instead, they wanted a mobile loyalty card, said Sam Altman, Loopt’s co-founder and chief executive.

“Instead of advertising with a banner, it’s offering users incentives for good behavior,” he said. “They’re trying to turn existing customers into better ones.”

Are you satisfied with your phones now? How long you phones have been bought? I think most of people may consider changing for new and beautiful cell phones since the phone market is changing so fast that the old cell phones looks not that beautiful or multifunctional any more.

Most users of Sony Ericsson can identify its classy feel simply by a look at the device. The spanking exterior, the extremely alluring touchscreens, the stunning cameras, the video recording that has the trademark Sony inputs, highs speed internet browsers, Wi-Fi, blue tooth, and a vast memory space, all make up for the typical mobile phone from the Japanese-Swedish phone maker duo.O2, Orange, T-Mobile, 3 Mobile, Vodafone, Virgin Media all have come out with great Sony W995 deals to close in on the more than already interested customer. Obviously, the Sony W995 comes to you with certain advancements in terms of features and adds on in comparison to its predecessors.

O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone have come out with rather well priced Sony Ericsson contract deals. You have the two year contract for monthly payment of 15 to 25 pounds and you not only get the fancy handset free but along with it some calling time unlimited text messaging as well. Orange gives the phone for free for an effective monthly charge for 24 months for just 12.08 pounds and also offers 200 minutes of calling time and 9999 text messages free as part of the deal. Of course there is a 19 month line rental involved.

LG launched three news handsets, Cookie Plus, Cookie Fresh and Cookie Pep. All the three Cookies come with full touchscreen display and are expected to be available for purchase in 50 countries at the end of this month.

lg cookie plus

The LG Cookie Plus, iced in 16 colours, is a mid-range phone and it will come with all the standard features you can expect nowadays from such a device. It will have a 3-megapixel camera (with the option to scribble on photos before sending them), widgets and apps, push email and Web browsing, a speed-dial home screen, cartoon-style interface and LiveSquare social networking capabilities, which assigns avatars to your friends and gathers all their twitterings into one place. The phone plays MPEG-4 video and supports MP3 playback and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Besides, it will come with 3G connectivity and support for playback and FM tuner.

lg cookie fresh

The LG Cookie Fresh, a follow-up to the pretty Cookie Plus, will have more of an emphasis on style baked in coming in 16 rubber-trimmed colours, but it will only come with a less impressive 2.0-megapixel camera. This will be a huge disadvantage for the Fresh, as mobile phone companies manufacture phones with larger and larger cameras into mobile phones (for instance, Sony Ericsson C905, Samsung SPH-V8200, Samsung i8510 all with an 8 megapixel snapper). However, the main reason the original LG Cookie has been so popular over the last couple of years is not the number of camera’s megapixels, but the fact that it offers a full touchscreen experience at a relative low price. And the LG Cookie Fresh is set to take that appeal even further. It offers S-Class interface, FM radio and 3.5mm headphone jack, email capability and built-in social networking applications. It does not support 3G and it will be hitting Europe at around €120/£100.

I am positive that this phone will be an instant hit with the youngsters”, said Mr. Sudhin Mathur, Business Head, Mobile Communications, LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd.
It has a 7.62 cm Full Touch Screen, One Touch Social Networking Apps (Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Orkut, YouTube, Picasa), a 3 megapixel camera, MP3 player, Livesquare, Motion Silent, FM radio, video capture and audio recording, GSM / GPRS / EDGE / WAP / Bluetooth and an internal memory of 42 MB.

It seems HTC has taken its strategy in India very seriously. The Taiwanaese mobile phone OME, will be investing 1 million USD in India to promote its new phone, HTC Smart. HTC Smart, which is actually not a smart phone is based on Qualcomm’s BREW platform and will feature an improvised version of the Sense UI. Sense UI is currently used by HTC in it phones, which run on Android and Windows Mobile. 1 million USD is indeed a huge amount considering the fact that HTC will be using it in the launch of one single phone but I guess for them India in an important market. HTC Smart, with its Sense UI is easy to use and will give the user a smart phone like experience. The phone will be hitting the India retail shelves in the last week of March 2010. Priced between INR 10,000 – 15,000, HTC Smart will compete with Samsung’s Corby Series as well as Nokia’s phones like Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

After launching two phones under its X Series range of handsets, the X3 and the X6, Nokia is all set to launch Nokia X9. Nok Nok TV reports that, the Nokia X9 will be like the X6 but it will be loaded with lots of features that you won’t find in its predecessors. As of now, no concrete images or news has been confirmed by Nokia but yeah there are some design mock-ups available that show the phone to be an ultra-sleek featured packed monster.Unlike many other Nokia phones, the screen stretches to edges and the phone’s design has rounded corners that give it a very sleek look. The phone will feature a capacitive touch screen with HD 720P recording capacity and a whooping quad LED flash. There is no official communication as such from Nokia but it seems that the phone will be the first one to feature Symbian^3 Operating System.

Nokia has announced that it will soon be releasing its unlimited “Comes With Music” service in India. Under this service, India mobile phone users would be able to download free music from Nokia, which will be DRM protected. This offer will be valid for one year and the service will come only with some high-end handsets of Nokia, which include some of its music optimized smart phones like the XpressMusic range. Other series’ from Nokia that will come equipped with the Comes With Music service are the N Series and the E Series. I am surprised why they don’t have the X Series in this. Though the offer will be valid for one year, users can retain the music they have downloaded under Comes With Music for as long as they want. [Via]

With everyone asking the question to Nokia about the company’s plan to bring a better flagship imaging phone than the N86, it seems Nokia was secretly working on it. The latest phone to leak from Nokia’s Stable is the N8-00, which sports a 12 MP snapper, with capacitive touch screen. The N8 is the first Nokia phone with a 12MP snapper and it is also the first phone to have a HDMI output. What Samsung did last year, Nokia is doing now. The touch screen is a massive 3.5 inch one just like the Nokia X6 and overall this looks to be one hell of a phone. [Via]
